ADULT SPEECH THERAPY IN CAPE TOWN AND ONLINE

Speech Therapy for Adults

Adults.

Support shaped around your communication, your daily life and what matters to you.

You may be adjusting to changes in speech, language, thinking, voice or swallowing. You may have communicated this way for a long time and now want practical support for a particular situation. Wherever you are starting from, therapy should make room for your priorities and your way of communicating.

START WHERE YOU ARE

You do not need to fit a label before asking for support

Some people come to us with a diagnosis or referral. Others simply know that conversations, work tasks, speaking, eating or drinking have become harder. An initial appointment gives you space to explain what you have noticed and decide whether speech-language therapy feels useful.

At Stutter Voice and Speech Lab, we work with adults across Cape Town and online. Together, we identify what is already working, what feels difficult and what you would like to change, access or participate in more fully.

WHAT WE CAN EXPLORE TOGETHER

Clinical terms can be useful, but they do not define you

We support people with aphasia, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, cognitive-communication changes, voice conditions, stuttering and dysphagia. If any of these terms are new to you, we will explain them in clear language and relate them to your own experience.

YOUR THERAPY, STEP BY STEP

What therapy looks like

1. We begin with your story

We talk about your communication or swallowing, your routines, your strengths and the situations that matter most to you. Assessment activities are chosen to help us understand your needs, not to reduce you to a score.

2. We agree on meaningful goals

Your plan may focus on restoring a skill, finding a new strategy, using communication supports, adapting an environment or helping the people around you communicate more accessibly.

3. We practise for real life

Sessions connect to the conversations, tasks and places that are important to you. We review progress together and adapt the plan as your needs change.

Adult Speech Therapy FAQs

Do I need a diagnosis or referral?

Not always. You are welcome to contact us directly. If your needs would be better supported by another professional, or if a medical referral is needed, we will explain the next step.

It may. Speech-language therapy can support speech, language, thinking and communication, and swallowing after a stroke or brain injury. The approach depends on your health, communication profile and personal goals, and may include support for family or caregivers.

You can still choose therapy if there is something you want to explore. The goal is not to erase part of who you are. It may be to make a particular situation easier, reduce effort, build self-advocacy or expand the ways you communicate.

Yes, if you would like to. A trusted person can help share information, learn supportive communication strategies and take part in planning. Your preferences remain central.

Yes, when online sessions are suitable for your goals and access needs. We can discuss technology, communication supports and whether in-person care would be more appropriate.

Care that begins with listening

Reece van Heerden

Panorama Medi Clinic

“Christopher has helped me with my stutter for the last year, and I’ve improved in my speech as well as mentally. He taught me many tools and ways to get out of situations but also taught me that not every day will be smooth and on days like those I shouldn’t stress myself as it happens. Overall I’ve had an amazing experience with Christopher.”
